Praying through Proverbs, Chapter 3 – Financial Stewardship
Dear Heavenly Father,
We haven’t always honored you with our first fruits. We’ve felt scared or greedy or simply unsure and we’ve held on to our money with tight fists at the time of offering, instead of being open handed and eager to give.
We admit that we’ve not always trusted You with our income and our livelihood. But when we made the vows for richer or poorer, we were making those vows to you as well as to each other. We’re ready to view our money as a tool.
Help us want to work hard to earn an income (1 Tim. 5:8; 2 Thess. 3:8-10). We also request the desire to seek a balance with our finances and income, as we do not want to be like the rich fool who wasn’t satisfied with his daily bread but instead tore down his barns to build bigger ones (Luke 12:16-20).
Please open our eyes so we can see the ways You want us to be generous with the income you’ve blessed us with as we learn to give more generously and to trust that You will always provide for our needs (Psalm 37:25).
In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. – Proverbs 3:5-10, KJV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight, Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Honour the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. – Proverbs 3:5-10, NIV
