Praying through First Samuel, Chapter 1 – To Trust God with Secret Longings

I’m excited to announce a 31-day prayer series hosted by my friend and fellow blogger, Davonne Parks, The Tidy Mom. The series will take place here at MarriagePrayers.today starting today, October 1st, and will run for 31 days. I hope you enjoy this series as we pray through this book together.

“This book is really touching my heart – Hannah praying for her son, nursing him and holding tightly to him as a baby, then making him a new robe every year. I’ve thought about how she must have thought about him so tenderly and the tears she likely wept as she spent hours hand sewing tiny stitches for him, missing and loving him so much that she wanted him to live for God. And Eli didn’t restrain his own sons, but somehow raised Samuel well. Samuel’s mother’s influence on his early years must have been tremendous. Wow. Reading slowly enough to absorb the message so I can write prayers is so good. Thank you for allowing me to do this!” – Davonne

Dear Heavenly Father,

We bring our deepest hopes and desires before You today. We know that You are good and just and holy, and that You, who created the universe and spoke the stars into existence, can answer our heart’s cry. We also know that Your ways are higher than our ways, and that even when we can’t see it, You are always moving and working in our lives when we choose to follow You.

Help us trust Your plan. Convict us if we’re making our desires into an idol, and give us repentant hearts when we allow our earthly longings to turn our focus away from You. We know that when we delight in You, You will give us the desires of our hearts (Psalm 37:4), so we ask You to help our hopes and longings line up with Your will for our lives.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

…The Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him.” 1 Samuel 1:27, KJV
