Praying through First Samuel, Chapter 15 – Help Us To Be Humble

I’m excited to share this 31-day marriage prayer series hosted by my friend and fellow blogger, Davonne Parks, The Tidy Mom. The series is taking place here at for the entire month of October.

Dear Heavenly Father,

1st Samuel 15 is full of tragedy. Saul became prideful and wise in his own eyes. So he didn’t listen to Your instruction. The consequences were devastating. They tore people apart, eroded trust, and cost him his crown.

What started out so purely went sour the minute Saul began trusting in himself instead of in You. And even though he repented, he still had to suffer the consequences from his disobedience.

Help us learn from this. We don’t want to become prideful or to think we know better than You. We want to trust Your word and Your wisdom instead of our own.

When we fall short, please guide us back to the right path, and help us to be humble enough to accept the correction.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

“And Samuel said, When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the Lord anointed thee king over Israel? And the Lord sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed. Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the Lord, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the Lord?” 1 Samuel 15:17-19, KJV

“Samuel said, ‘Although you were once small in your own eyes, did you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The Lord anointed you king over Israel. And he sent you on a mission, saying, ‘Go and completely destroy those wicked people, the Amalekites; wage war against them until you have wiped them out.’ Why did you not obey the Lord? Why did you pounce on the plunder and do evil in the eyes of the Lord?'” 1 Samuel 15:17-19, NIV
