Praying through First Samuel, Chapter 29 – Dealing with Rejection

I’m excited to share this 31-day marriage prayer series hosted by my friend and fellow blogger, Davonne Parks, The Tidy Mom. The series is taking place here at for the entire month of October.

Dear Heavenly Father,

David was rejected time and time again. He was overlooked by his father (chapter 16), repeatedly attacked by Saul, refused by Nabal (chapter 25), and cast away from the Philistines (chapter 29).

Those intense rejections must have been extremely difficult to take. Yet, he didn’t let other people define him. Through it all, he chose to be a warrior for You.

Lord, help us to not let past hurts or rejections define us, either. We don’t want those rejections to creep into our marriage, demanding our spouse to fill the empty places.

Only You can fill that emptiness. Trying to find that fulfillment in anything else, including each other, only sets us up for disappointment and frustration. Help us to be aware when we’re wanting too much from each other, and show us how we can find our true source of rest, comfort, and strength in You.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

“Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the Lord liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favour thee not. Wherefore now return, and go in peace, that thou displease not the lords of the Philistines.” 1 Samuel 29:6-7, KJV

“So Achish called David and said to him, ‘As surely as the Lord lives, you have been reliable, and I would be pleased to have you serve with me in the army. From the day you came to me until today, I have found no fault in you, but the rulers don’t approve of you. Now turn back and go in peace; do nothing to displease the Philistine rulers.'” 1 Samuel 29:6-7, NIV
