Praying through First Samuel, Chapter 5 – Running Away

I’m excited to announce a 31-day marriage prayer series hosted by my friend and fellow blogger, Davonne Parks, The Tidy Mom. The series is taking place here at MarriagePrayers.today for the entire month of October.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We see throughout the entire Bible, and today in 1 Samuel chapter 5, that people tried to hide from You when they lived wickedly. They feared Your wrath, or disregarded You completely, but they never could succeed in running away.

None of us can. We can’t run from You, we can’t hide our sin from You, and we certainly can’t trick You into believing that our hearts are purer than they are.

You always know.

We thank You for knowing. We thank You for loving us so much that You know us intimately. And we pray that You’ll give us strength to remove any secret sin from our hearts as we seek to grow closer to each other and nearer to You.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

“And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god. They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.” 1 Samuel 5:7-8, KJV

“When the people of Ashdod saw what was happening, they said, ‘The ark of the god of Israel must not stay here with us, because his hand is heavy on us and on Dagon our god.’ So they called together all the rulers of the Philistines and asked them, ‘What shall we do with the ark of the god of Israel?’ They answered, ‘Have the ark of the god of Israel moved to Gath.’ So they moved the ark of the God of Israel.” 1 Samuel 5:7-8, NIV
