Praying through First Samuel, Chapter 6 – Thankful for the Sacrifice
I’m excited to share this 31-day marriage prayer series hosted by my friend and fellow blogger, Davonne Parks, The Tidy Mom. The series is taking place here at MarriagePrayers.today for the entire month of October.
Dear Heavenly Father,
In the Old Testament, we read about the many burnt sacrifices and guilt offerings that were offered to You because of the people’s transgressions.
We’re no better. We have no less sin than they. Yet, we’re thankful that we no longer have to go through the processes they did under the Old Law. Thankful for the sacrifice You sent to earth to become atonement for our own sins.
Please fill us with gratitude for the sacrifice Jesus made.
Transform us from the inside-out. We don’t want to be filled with bitterness, self-righteousness, worry or greed. We want You to infuse us with the fruits of the spirit (Galations 5:22-23).
We desire to exemplify the fruits of the spirit together, inwardly towards each other, and outwardly to shine a light to the world (Matthew 5:14-15). Help us to never forget the Ultimate Sacrifice that was made on our behalf, eternal atonement for our own sins.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
“And the cart came into the field of Joshua, a Bethshemite, and stood there, where there was a great stone: and they clave the wood of the cart, and offered the kine a burnt offering unto the Lord… And these are the golden emerods which the Philistines returned for a trespass offering unto the Lord; for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Askelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one.” 1 Samuel 6:14,17 KJV
“The cart came to the field of Joshua of Beth Shemesh, and there it stopped beside a large rock. The people chopped up the wood of the cart and sacrificed the cows as a burnt offering to the Lord… These are the gold tumors the Philistines sent as a guilt offering to the Lord—one each for Ashdod, Gaza, Ashkelon, Gath and Ekron.” 1 Samuel 6:14, 17 NIV
