Praying through Proverbs, Chapter 19 – Careful Decisions

Praying through Proverbs, Chapter 19 – Careful Decisions

Dear Heavenly Father,

Sometimes we’re tempted to act quickly and rashly. Maybe it’s something we’re angry about so we lash out. Or maybe it’s something we’re excited about that we feel sure is the right decision, so we run for it without carefully weighing our options.

But Your Word tells us that, “Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way” (Proverbs 19:2, ESV).

Help us look to You for guidance so we can carefully make choices and avoid the regret of rash decisions. We ask for a desire to seek wise counsel through regularly studying Your Word, praying heartfelt prayers, and by seeking out relationships with godly mentors.

Help us recognize any part we play in troublesome occurrences, so we can learn from those situations.

Sometimes bad things happen that are beyond our control (Matthew 5:45) but sometimes our poor decisions can contribute to troublesome situations.

Please guide us as we give ourselves a minute to pause, so we can really think through our decisions and actions, while we still have time to make wise choices.

In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth. The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the Lord. – Proverbs 19:2-3, KJV

Desire without knowledge is not good— how much more will hasty feet miss the way! A person’s own folly leads to their ruin, yet their heart rages against the Lord. – Proverbs 19:2-3, NIV
