Praying through Proverbs, Chapter 29 – Rash Words

Dear Heavenly Father,

When we’re in the heat of the moment, it’s sometimes easy to shoot words like venom, uttering sarcastic remarks and vehemently voicing our opinions. Please give us the wisdom to pause before we speak.

We need to consider the impact our words will have.

Help us choose self control so we can refrain from making hurtful comments. Guide us so we can bring calm and peacefulness into our home. We want to be each others greatest earthly pleasure and to energize, not drain, one another with our speech.

Please give us humble spirits that will enable us to see when we have wrongfully vented our anger. Guide our hearts to repentance of any times we’ve used harsh and hurtful words.

In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards… Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him… An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression. A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit. – Proverbs 29:11, 20, 22, 23 KJV

Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end… Do you see someone who speaks in haste? There is more hope for a fool than for them… An angry person stirs up conflict, and a hot-tempered person commits many sins. Pride brings a person low, but the lowly in spirit gain honor. – Proverbs 29:11, 20, 22, 23, NIV
