Praying through Proverbs, Chapter 9 – Offering Instruction

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for guiding and instructing us in Your Word. The more we follow You, the more we understand the wisdom contained within Your inspired message.

In addition to wanting to be able to receive wisdom and instruction gracefully (Proverbs 8:32-33), we’re asking for clear guidance when we need to correct others, whether it’s those living within our home, or others outside our home.

Please show us when we should speak and when we should remain silent (Ecclesiastes 3:1, 7). Help us refrain from trying to rebuke mockers as we instead seek to reflect You by being a shining light to the world (Matthew 5:14-16).

Most of all, Lord, please show us where we need to improve upon these principles in our own marriage. Let us see how we can give and receive instruction in a positive, loving manner.

In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot. Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. Proverbs 9:7-9, KJV

__________________________________________________________

Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults; whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse. Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you; rebuke the wise and they will love you. Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning. – Proverbs 9:7-9, NIV
