Marriage Prayer – Submitting One to Another
Dear Heavenly Father,
You word tells us to submit to one another out of reverence for Christ (Ephesians 5:21). Paul instructs wives to submit to their husbands (v. 22) and to honor them as the head of the home. He also instructs men to love their wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for it (v. 25).
In this self-centered society, submission is a difficult truth for many to swallow. It goes against our natural desire to hold on to a sense of importance. It goes against our hope to be seen and be heard.
But your wisdom runs deep. You teach us that it’s more important to give than to get. You’ve shown us how submission is strength under control. You remind us of our importance in that You sent Your Son to die for each one of us. You illustrate our significance in the way that You care for us daily.
Please teach us to submit to each other according to Your perfect will. Give us the strength to walk in truth even if the rest of the world doesn’t choose to.
In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it. – Ephesians 5:21-25, KJV
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. – Ephesians 5:21-25, NIV
