Marriage Prayer – Union is Power

Dear Heavenly Father,

Help us to take our eyes off of our own needs and desires, to focus on the needs of our marriage. Teach us to grow closer to You as we grow closer together. Remind us, Lord, how unity is power and how a strand of three cords is not quickly broken.

Your Word tells us that two are better than one. We’ve seen this in our own lives as we are source of comfort and strength to each other.

When we learn patience and kindness and grace we learn to work as a team. By Your strength, we learn to stand strong when the other is weak, and find words that lift up when the other is down.

Created with this union in mind, we were designed one for the other. Yet some days it’s hard as we growing in grace. So we ask that You give us Your your wisdom and strength, Lord, as we’re learning to be the best “we” we can be.

In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. – Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, KJV

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
