To Carry Our Cross Daily –
Today’s Marriage Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
We know that a Spirit-filled marriage must start with a Spirit-led couple. And so, Lord, we ask for the grace necessary for us to grow — to be conformed to the image of Your Son. Your Word teaches us that the flesh is at war with the Spirit, and we know that the struggle is real.
We know we’re not working alone, we have You, Lord, working in us and through us. So we ask You to help us gain control over our tongue, our thoughts, and to gently handle each other with care. Show us what needs to change in our lives, Lord. Help us to carry our cross daily, and to die to this world so we may live to the One who died for us. We ask that You help us to listen, to yield, and to follow.
In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Today’s Bible Verse
Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. – Romans 8:12-17 KJV
Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. – Romans 8:12-17 NIV
