When a Spouse is Gone

When a Spouse is Gone - Today's Marriage Prayer

Dear heavenly Father,

Losing a spouse leaves an ache that no words can fully describe. The silence feels overwhelming, and the absence of the one we loved so deeply weighs heavy on the heart. In this grief, draw near—be the Comforter You’ve promised to be.

For the one left behind, remind them that they are not walking this road alone. You are close to the brokenhearted, and You hold every tear. When loneliness presses in, let Your presence fill the emptiness. When the memories bring both pain and gratitude, let Your peace steady their soul.

We thank You for the gift of the years shared, for the love that was real, and for the legacy that remains. And though the ache lingers, we hold onto the promise that this separation is not forever—for in Christ, death does not have the final word.

Lord, carry the grieving heart, sustain them with hope, and surround them with Your love until the day when every tear is wiped away.

In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18, NIV
