Shape Our Hearts Before Our Words

Shape Our Hearts Before Our Words — Today’s Marriage Prayer

Dear heavenly Father,

We thank You that the real work of love begins in the heart long before it reaches our lips or our actions. We ask that You shape our hearts before our words. Form within us a spirit that seeks to understand before responding, to show grace before reacting, and to yield to Your leading before defending our own way.

Help us recognize that the tone of our home often begins with the posture of our hearts. When impatience rises or pride presses in, remind us to slow down and turn to You. We ask that You purify our motives so our words reflect humility rather than frustration, and compassion rather than self-preservation.

Lord, teach us to invite Your correction instead of resisting it. Where attitudes need softening, We ask that You show us. Where habits need changing, guide us. Where wounds need healing, bring Your comfort.

We ask that the inward work You do in us produce outward fruit in our marriage—gentle replies, sincere apologies, thoughtful encouragement, and love that points back to Christ. Shape us at the root so what grows from our lives honors You.

In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
