A Marriage That Listens Well

A Marriage That Listens Well — Today’s Marriage Prayer

Dear heavenly Father,

We come before You today, knowing how easy it is to hear without truly listening. In the middle of busy days and quick conversations, we can miss what’s really being said—and sometimes, what’s being felt.

Teach us to listen well.

Help us to slow down and give one another our full attention. Not just waiting for our turn to speak, but seeking to understand. Give us patience to hear each other out, and humility to receive what is shared without becoming defensive.

Lord, we ask that You would shape our hearts.

When we feel misunderstood, help us to respond with grace.
When we’re quick to interrupt, remind us to pause.
When emotions rise, steady us so we can listen with care.

Give us a desire to understand.

To notice tone, not just words.
To ask questions instead of making assumptions.
To create space where honesty feels safe.

Shape our marriage through this kind of listening.

Let it deepen our connection, strengthen our trust, and bring clarity where there has been confusion. Let it become a quiet way we show love—by giving our attention, our patience, and our care.

Draw us closer to Christ, who hears us fully and responds with compassion. As we follow Him, teach us to listen to one another with that same kindness.

In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
