Teach Us to Grow Together—Today's Marriage Prayer
Dear heavenly Father,
When we first said, “I do,” we didn’t know all the ways life would change us. We couldn’t have imagined every joy You would bring or every challenge You would use to shape us. Looking back, we can see that we aren’t the same people we were then. And by Your grace, that’s a good thing.
Father, help us keep growing together.
Don’t let us settle into the idea that this is simply who we are. Keep teaching us. Keep stretching us. Keep showing us the places where we need to become more patient, more forgiving, more compassionate, and more like Christ. Give us hearts that are willing to grow, even when growth feels uncomfortable.
Help us be thankful that You’re still at work in each other. Instead of becoming frustrated by the areas where we’re still growing, remind us to celebrate the evidence of Your grace. Help us notice the progress instead of only seeing what still needs to change. And when one of us stumbles, teach the other to offer a helping hand instead of harsh criticism.
Lord, thank You for being so patient with us. You never stop working in our hearts, and You never give up on the work You’ve begun. We ask that our marriage would continue to grow stronger with every passing year—not simply because we’ve been together longer, but because we’re learning, little by little, to become more like Jesus.
In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
