Teach Us Not to Take Each Other for Granted—Today's Marriage Prayer
Dear heavenly Father,
It’s funny how something can be precious to us and familiar at the same time. We can be deeply thankful for the person beside us, and yet move through the day without really noticing them. The coffee gets made. The errands get done. The doors open and close. Life keeps moving, and somehow the blessing becomes part of the background.
Father, we don’t want to live that way.
Help us slow down enough to see each other again. Remind us to notice the little things we’ve grown used to—the kindness, the effort, the faithfulness, the quiet ways we care for one another that rarely get mentioned.
Give us grateful hearts that speak up.
Help us say thank you more often. Help us compliment freely. Help us remember that appreciation shouldn’t be saved for special occasions. Sometimes the simplest words can mean the most when they come at just the right moment.
Lord, keep us from focusing so much on what could be better that we overlook what is already good. Open our eyes to the blessing sitting across the table, walking through the door, or lying beside us at the end of the day.
Thank You for the gift of this life together. Teach us to treasure it while we have it, and to love each other with the kind of gratitude that notices, remembers, and gives thanks.
In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
