A Compassionate Heart –
Today’s Marriage Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

No matter how wonderful we think our relationship may be, there are days when we truly feel we are not being heard. During these times, we ask that You remind us to be mindful of each other’s heart. Grant us the wisdom to cast aside any foolish pride or self-centeredness that would only result in bitterness. Your word says when there are many words, wrongdoing is unavoidable, But one who restrains his lips is wise (Proverbs 10:19).

Help us to hold our tongue, and to give each other the time to say what is on our hearts. Help us to listen—not just with our ears, but with a compassionate heart that’s willing to give more than it gets.

In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Today’s Bible Verse

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise. A fool’s wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame. He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit. There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health. – Proverbs 12:15-18, KJV

The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice. Fools show their annoyance at once, but the prudent overlook an insult. An honest witness tells the truth, but a false witness tells lies. The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. – Proverbs 12:15-18, NIV
