A Marriage That Lets Go of Bitterness — Today’s Marriage Prayer
Dear heavenly Father,
We come before You today, knowing how quietly bitterness can settle into a heart. Sometimes it begins with one hurt, one disappointment, one conversation that didn’t go the way we hoped. And if we don’t bring it to You, it can grow into something that shapes how we see each other.
Lord, help us not to hold on to what You are asking us to release.
Teach us to recognize bitterness before it takes root. When we are tempted to replay old hurts, gently turn our thoughts toward grace. When we feel justified in pulling away, remind us of the mercy You have shown us again and again.
Soften our hearts, Father.
Help us to forgive honestly, not by pretending nothing happened, but by trusting You with what hurt us. Give us wisdom to speak when something needs to be addressed, and humility to do it with love.
Where resentment has created distance, bring healing. Where old wounds still feel tender, bring Your comfort. Where pride has kept us from moving toward each other, lead us back with grace.
Draw us closer to Christ, who forgave freely and loved faithfully. Let His love shape the way we respond, the way we remember, and the way we move forward together.
May our marriage be guarded from bitterness and filled instead with mercy, tenderness, and peace.
In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
