To Speak Words That Build Up— Today's Marriage Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

As the psalmist declares, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork”(Psalm 19:1, KJV), we recognize that our love is a reflection of Your divine handiwork. Just as You created the beauty of the skies, may You also shape our marriage into something that brings glory to You.

Lord, may Your Word be the foundation of our love, for as it is written, “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple” (Psalm 19:7, KJV). Teach us to walk in wisdom, to seek Your truth, and to guide our marriage according to Your ways. May we always turn to Your Word for counsel, correction, and encouragement, building a relationship that is strong and unwavering.

Father, let the love between us be pure and radiant, like the sun that rises in its strength (Psalm 19:5). When trials come, remind us to lean on You, knowing that Your precepts are right, rejoicing the heart (Psalm 19:8). May we find joy not only in each other but in the shared pursuit of honoring You in all we do.

Forgive us, Lord, for the times when our words have been harsh or our hearts have been impatient. Search us and reveal anything that hinders the unity in our marriage. Keep us from presumptuous sins, that they may not have dominion over us (Psalm 19:13). Help us to speak words that build up and not tear down, to listen with grace, and to extend the same mercy to one another that You so freely give.

Above all, Lord, we pray the words of the psalmist over our marriage:
“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer” (Psalm 19:14, KJV). May our conversations, our actions, and even our thoughts bring You honor. Strengthen our love, deepen our trust, and make our marriage a reflection of Your goodness.

In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
