Fighting a Spiritual War – Today’s Marriage Prayer
Fighting a Spiritual War –
Today’s Marriage Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Trouble inevitably comes through those who can’t hold their tongue, won’t exercise patience, and don’t keep their vows. We want more for our marriage, we expect more from ourselves, and so we ask you to help us to get there.
James warns those who quarrel and fight that it is because of passions that are at war within them. Lord, we ask that You give us the wisdom and strength by Your grace to stand against evil. Give us the discipline we need to be self-controlled in all things. You have planted the desire within us to do what is right and we ask that You nurture that seed.
Help us to stand firm and be self-controlled regardless of how alluring temptation may be. Your word tells us that we’re not wrestling against flesh and blood, but against spiritual wickedness. A wickedness we must not underestimate. When we’re angry—we’re not fighting each other—we’re each fighting a spiritual war that threatens to tear down our marriage. Help us to fight the good fight side by side, hand in hand, and in one accord.
In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Today’s Bible Verse
All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. – 1 Corinthians 6:12-13, KJV
I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. – 1 Corinthians 6:12-13, NIV
