Guarding Our Hearts

Guarding Our Hearts — Today’s Marriage Prayer

Dear heavenly Father,

Your Word tells us to guard our hearts, for everything we do flows from it. Today we come before You, asking for wisdom to protect what is happening beneath the surface of our lives.

Teach us to guard our hearts well.

Not by closing ourselves off,
but by being mindful of what we allow to take root.

When irritation begins to grow, make us aware.
When comparison tries to creep in, redirect us.
When distance quietly forms, draw us back again.

Lord, help us tend to our hearts before small things become larger ones. Give us discernment to notice what is shaping our thoughts, our attitudes, and ultimately, the way we treat one another.

Fill our hearts with what is good.

Let gratitude take root where complaint has been.
Let patience grow where frustration has lingered.
Let love remain steady, even in the ordinary days.

Father, as You shape what is within us, let it be reflected in how we live together. May our words, our actions, and our responses flow from hearts that are being formed by You.

Guard what matters most.

And help us do the same for one another—with care, with intention, and with grace.

In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
