Guarding Our Words With Grace – Today’s
Marriage Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Your Word teaches us that our words have the power to either wound or heal, to uplift or to discourage. We ask for Your guidance in making it our daily goal to bridle our tongues, bringing them under the control of Your Spirit, so that we may speak with wisdom and grace. Your Word tells us that when words are many, sin is not absent, but those who hold their tongues are wise (Proverbs 10:19). Yet, in a world that pushes us to always have the last word and prove ourselves right, this lesson is often difficult to live out.

Lord, remind us constantly that it’s far more important to fight for the health of our marriage than to fight to be right. Teach us to pause and reflect when we feel the urge to assert ourselves, allowing Your peace to guide our responses. Lead us in becoming people who speak words of encouragement and grace, even when our emotions are stirred. Help us to restrain our tongues when negativity rises, and to take every thought captive before careless words spill out.

We ask for Your forgiveness for the careless and thoughtless words we’ve spoken in the past. Grant us the grace to forgive one another, just as You have forgiven us. Fill our hearts with Your love so that our words may reflect Your character and bring healing to our relationships.

In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Today’s Bible Verse

Whoever hides hatred has lying lips, And whoever spreads slander is a fool. In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise. – Proverbs 10:19, KJV
