Out Of Reverence For Christ –
Today’s Marriage Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Your word tells us to submit to one another out of reverence for Christ (Ephesians 5:21). Paul instructs wives to submit to their husbands (v. 22) and to honor them as the head of the home. He also instructs men to love their wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for it (v. 25).
In this self-centered society, submission and humility are difficult truths for many to swallow. It goes against a natural desire to hold on to a sense of importance. It goes against a strong desire to be seen, heard, and admired.
But your wisdom is not like the foolishness of this world. You teach us that it’s more important to give of ourselves than to get. You’ve shown us how true submission is strength and not weakness. You remind us of our importance in that You sent Your Son to die for each one of us. You illustrate our significance in the way that You care for us daily.
Please teach us to submit to each other according to Your perfect will. May we grow by Your grace, and have the strength to walk in truth even if the rest of the world chooses not to.
In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it. – Ephesians 5:21-25, KJV
