Out of the Overflow of the Heart

Out of the Overflow of the Heart — Today’s Marriage Prayer

Dear heavenly Father,

Your Word says that the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. Today we come before You, recognizing that our words toward one another often reveal what is happening beneath the surface.

Search what fills our hearts.

If frustration has been building, bring it into the light.
If gratitude has been neglected, stir it again.
If love has grown quiet, awaken it within us.

Lord, help us see that our words are not the starting point—they are the overflow. So instead of only trying to correct what we say, teach us to bring our hearts before You first.

Fill us with what is good.

Let patience take root where irritation has been growing.
Let kindness rise where harshness has slipped in.
Let grace shape what flows out of us in everyday moments.

Father, when our words fall short, draw us back quickly. Teach us to take responsibility, to apologize sincerely, and to seek a better way forward.

Shape our inner life so that our outer words reflect Your work within us. May our conversations become more thoughtful, more gentle, and more life-giving as our hearts are formed by You.

Let what overflows from us strengthen our marriage, not strain it.

In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Today’s Bible Verse

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart… For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. Luke 6:45, NIV
