Remembering to Pray Before We React—Today's Marriage Prayer
Dear heavenly Father,
Sometimes it only takes one little thing to change the mood in a room. A hurried answer. A tone we weren’t expecting. A comment that touches a tender spot. And before we’ve had time to think about it, we’re already forming a response.
Father, in those moments, help us turn to You first.
Give us the wisdom to pause before we speak. When our feelings are hurt or frustration starts to rise, remind us that we don’t have to settle everything in that moment. We can stop. We can pray. We can ask You to help us see things clearly before our emotions decide what comes next.
Sometimes what we need most isn’t a better argument—it’s a quieter heart.
Help us listen carefully before assuming we know what the other person meant. And when something truly does need to be addressed, we ask that You give us the courage to speak honestly, but gently. Keep us from using words we’ll wish we could take back once the moment has passed.
Lord, You know how easily pride can slip into a conversation. You also know how quickly a little grace can soften one. Teach us to make room for Your wisdom before we react.
Thank You for being so patient with us. May that patience show up in our marriage too—in the pause before we answer, in the prayer before we speak, and in the grace we choose to give each other.
In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
