Teach Us to Be Friends Again—Today's Marriage Prayer
Dear heavenly Father,
When we first fell in love, it didn’t take much to enjoy being together. We could talk for hours, laugh over the simplest things, and look for excuses to spend a little more time with each other. Then life happened. Responsibilities grew, schedules filled up, and somewhere along the way, it’s easy for friendship to quietly slip behind everything else.
Father, help us never lose the friendship that brought us together.
Teach us to enjoy each other again. Help us laugh more often, linger a little longer over a cup of coffee, and make time for conversations that have nothing to do with calendars or chores. Remind us that a strong marriage isn’t only built through faithfulness during hard times, but also through delighting in the gift of being together.
When life feels busy, help us protect time for one another. When we’re tempted to believe we’ll connect “when things slow down,” remind us that love grows in the moments we choose to make today. Show us how to be curious about each other, to ask good questions, to listen well, and to keep discovering the person You’ve entrusted to us.
Lord, thank You for giving us someone to walk through life with. We don’t want to simply share a house—we want to share our hearts. Help us build a marriage where friendship continues to grow, where joy is found in each other’s company, and where our love is strengthened by the simple blessing of spending time together.
In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
