Teach Us to Be Present—Today's Marriage Prayer
Dear heavenly Father,
It’s possible to spend an entire day beside someone without really being with them. We can share a home, eat at the same table, and talk about schedules and responsibilities, yet still miss the opportunity to truly connect. Life has a way of demanding our attention, and before we know it, the people we love most are getting whatever time we have left over.
Father, help us to be present.
When we’re together, quiet the distractions that pull at our minds. Help us put aside the things that can wait so we don’t miss the person You’ve placed right in front of us. Teach us to listen without hurrying the conversation, to look into each other’s eyes, and to give one another the simple gift of our full attention.
Remind us that love is often found in unhurried moments. It’s built one conversation at a time, one shared meal at a time, one evening on the porch, one walk around the block, one prayer before bed. Don’t let us overlook these moments because we’re always looking ahead to what’s next.
Lord, thank You for the gift of today. Help us embrace it with grateful hearts. May our marriage never become another item on our to-do list, but one of the greatest blessings we stop to enjoy. Teach us to be fully present with each other, just as You are always present with us.
