Teach Us to Be Thankful for Each Other

Teach Us to Be Thankful for Each Other—Today's Marriage Prayer

Dear heavenly Father,

There was probably a time when we thanked You often for bringing us together. We saw each other as an answer to prayer, and we noticed all the little things that made us smile. But as the years pass and life settles into its routines, it’s easy to let familiarity replace gratitude. We begin to notice what’s missing instead of remembering the gift that’s been there all along.

Father, bring thankful hearts back into our marriage.

Remind us why we fell in love. Help us remember the qualities we admired from the beginning, and open our eyes to the ways You’ve continued to work in each other’s lives. Keep us from taking one another for granted. Instead, help us notice the faithfulness, the kindness, the quiet sacrifices, and the everyday acts of love that so often go unseen.

When we’re tempted to focus on flaws, gently turn our hearts toward gratitude. Teach us to say “thank you” more often, to speak words of appreciation freely, and to let each other know that we don’t consider our marriage an obligation, but a blessing from Your hand.

Lord, thank You for writing our stories together. Through every season, You’ve been faithful, and we’re grateful that we don’t have to walk this journey alone. May our home be filled with thankful hearts that never lose sight of the precious gift You’ve entrusted to us in one another.

In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
