Teach Us to Give Each Other Our Best—Today's Marriage Prayer
Dear heavenly Father,
It’s funny how we can give our best to almost everyone else. We choose our words carefully with friends. We show patience with strangers. We smile through difficult conversations at work. Then we come home, exhausted from the day, and sometimes the people we love most receive whatever energy we have left.
Father, help us love well at home.
Remind us that our marriage deserves the same thoughtfulness we so freely offer to others. Help us not to save our kindness for the outside world while bringing our impatience through the front door. Give us the wisdom to notice when we’re running low and the humility to admit it instead of allowing weariness to speak for us.
Teach us to offer our spouse our attention before our distractions, our encouragement before our opinions, and our gratitude before our complaints. Help us never assume they’ll simply understand. Show us how to make them feel valued through the little choices we make every day.
Lord, thank You for the gift of coming home to someone who knows us so well. Help us never take that gift for granted. May our marriage be the place where kindness is practiced most often, forgiveness is given most freely, and love is seen most clearly. Shape our hearts so that the people closest to us experience the very best of who You’re making us to be.
