Teach Us to Lay Things Down - Today's Marriage Prayer
Dear heavenly Father,
We thank You that You never ask us to carry what You are willing to take from us. We ask that You teach us how to lay things down within our marriage—old frustrations, unspoken hurts, lingering disappointments, and the quiet weight of words we wish had gone differently.
Help us recognize when we are holding on to more than You ever intended. We ask that You give us willing hearts to release what burdens us and trust You with what feels unresolved. Teach us that love grows lighter, not heavier, when we choose mercy over memory and grace over keeping record.
Lord, remind us that laying things down is not avoidance, but obedience. It is choosing peace over persistence, restoration over resentment, and humility over pride. When we are tempted to revisit what should be surrendered, gently lead us back to You—the One who carries what we cannot.
We ask that our marriage be marked by this posture: hands open, hearts unguarded, and spirits willing to let go. Teach us to live unburdened with one another, reflecting the freedom You have so generously given us.
In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
