Teach Us to Love Beyond Ourselves — Today’s Marriage Prayer
Dear heavenly Father,
We thank You that true love is not sustained by emotion alone, but by the work You do within our hearts. We ask that You teach us to love beyond ourselves—beyond our preferences, our moods, and our natural limitations. When our strength runs short, remind us that love grounded in You endures.
Show us the places where self-focus hinders connection, where impatience interrupts gentleness, or where frustration overshadows grace. We ask that You help us see these moments not as failures, but as invitations to rely more fully on Your Spirit.
Lord, teach us a love that reflects Christ—steady, humble, and willing to give even when it is costly. Shape our desires so that serving one another becomes joy rather than obligation, and listening becomes a pathway to compassion rather than a task to complete.
We ask that You expand our love beyond what comes naturally and strengthen it with what comes from You alone. May our marriage bear witness to a love that grows deeper because it is rooted in something greater than ourselves.
In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
