Teach Us to Notice When the Other Is Carrying Too Much—Today's Marriage Prayer
Dear heavenly Father,
Sometimes the people we love don’t tell us they’re struggling. They keep going. They smile. They take care of what’s in front of them. From the outside, everything looks fine, but underneath they’re carrying more than anyone realizes. And if we’re not paying attention, we can miss it too.
Father, help us notice.
Give us eyes to see beyond the routine of everyday life. Help us recognize when our spouse is weary, discouraged, or simply needs someone to come alongside them. Keep us from becoming so absorbed in our own responsibilities that we overlook the quiet burdens the other is carrying. Teach us to ask, “How are you really doing?”—and then to listen with hearts that are ready to understand.
When one of us is feeling overwhelmed, help the other step in with grace. Show us how to lighten each other’s load, whether that’s through a helping hand, an encouraging word, a warm embrace, or a quiet prayer whispered together at the end of the day. Remind us that marriage isn’t about carrying our own burdens alone; it’s about walking through life side by side.
Lord, thank You that You never ask us to carry life’s weight by ourselves. Again and again, You invite us to come to You, and You faithfully meet us with strength for the day. Help our marriage reflect that same kind of love—a love that notices, a love that helps, and a love that quietly says, “You don’t have to carry this alone.”
In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
