Teach Us to Say Thank You More Often—Today's Marriage Prayer
Dear heavenly Father,
It’s easy to say “thank you” to the cashier at the grocery store or the stranger who holds the door open. But sometimes, the people who do the most for us hear those words the least. We get used to the meals, the errands, the daily routines, and all the little ways we care for each other. Before long, we begin to expect what we once appreciated.
Father, don’t let gratitude grow quiet in our home.
Help us notice the everyday acts of love that can so easily become invisible. Remind us to say “thank you” for the dinner on the table, for the ride to an appointment, for the lawn that’s been mowed, for the dishes that were washed, for the countless little things that say, “I love you,” without ever speaking the words.
Forgive us for the times we’ve assumed instead of appreciated. Open our eyes to the many ways we’re cared for each day, and give us hearts that are quick to express gratitude. May our appreciation never become something we only feel, but something we freely speak.
Lord, thank You for all the ways You care for us that we don’t even notice. Your mercies truly are new every morning. Help us reflect that same generous heart in our marriage. May our home be filled with thankful words, grateful hearts, and the kind of encouragement that reminds each of us we are seen, valued, and deeply loved.
In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
