The Devastating Impact Of Pride

The Devastating Impact Of Pride –
Today’s Marriage Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

If every couple truly embraced humility as You call us to, our marriages would reflect Your love and grace more fully. We recognize that pride often causes division, and when we place ourselves above one another, we invite tension and strife into our homes. If we each esteemed the other higher than ourselves, we would find less room for resentment and more space for unity. If every marriage was filled with tender-hearted compassion and grace, brokenness and heartache would be rare.

We see the devastating impact of pride in today’s world, Lord, with so many marriages ending in divorce, brought about by hardened hearts. Pride, selfishness, and anger all take root when humility is absent. We ask Your forgiveness for the times we’ve allowed pride to gain a foothold in our hearts and relationships, for the moments we’ve chosen self over service, and argument over understanding.

Help us put away selfish ambition and strife, and remind us daily that choosing love is always better than clinging to pride. Show us how to serve each other with the same humility that Christ demonstrated. May our marriages reflect the sacrificial love of Christ, where each of us seeks to uplift and encourage the other, valuing peace and unity over being right or in control.

In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Today’s Bible Verse

The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul. Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. – Proverbs 16:17-19 KJV

The highway of the upright avoids evil; those who guard their ways preserve their lives. Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be lowly in spirit along with the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud. – Proverbs 16:17-19 NIV
