The Power Of Our Words

The Power Of Our Words –
Today’s Marriage Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You, asking for Your guidance in how we communicate with each other. Teach us to speak with kindness, love, and gentleness, not just to be heard, but to truly hear one another. Help us to listen with open hearts, seeking to understand rather than simply defend our own point of view. When we disagree, remind us to stay respectful, even if we don’t see eye to eye.

Lord, we acknowledge the power of our words. They have the ability to build up or tear down, to bring peace or stir conflict. Help us choose our words wisely, speaking with thoughtfulness and care. Show us what to say and when to say it, but also give us the wisdom to know when silence is the better choice. Remind us often to speak words of encouragement, lifting each other up and affirming the love and respect we share.

Teach us, Lord, to be mindful of the tone and intent behind our words. Let compassion and kindness guide our speech, even in moments of frustration. When things don’t go as we hope, give us the patience to respond with grace rather than anger. If disagreements arise, grant us the humility to seek peace, striving to understand one another with gentleness and care.

We also ask for Your grace to start fresh when we fall short. May we be quick to ask forgiveness for the times we’ve let selfishness or impatience drive our words and actions. Help us to move beyond those moments, without dwelling on them. May we always prioritize “we” over “me,” knowing that love is a journey we’re meant to walk together.

In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Today’s Bible Verse

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. – James 1:19-20, KJV

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. – James 1:19-20, NIV
