To Recognize Temptation

To Recognize Temptation –
Today’s Marriage Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Sin is deceptive. It tempts us to wade into shallow waters, where the undercurrent is strong and waves are high. If we entertain it, sin pulls us in, overwhelms us, and drags us out to sea.

Help us to recognize temptation; to protect our minds from the lure of sin before we’re drawn away.

If we don’t control our thoughts, they’ll control us. If we aren’t wearing the armor of God and guarding our minds from sin and deception, we’re leaving ourselves open for attack.

Your word tells us to bring every thought into obedience (2 Corinthians 10:5), and so we ask for Your power to work in us not only to keep us safe but to accomplish great things in Your name.

Erase thoughts of resentment. Eliminate unforgiveness. Destroy any temptation of infidelity. Help us to bring our thoughts into captivity and obedience to Your will.

May we know Your truth, and hold tightly to it with all of our might.

In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Today’s Bible Verse

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. – James 1:12-15, KJV

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.  – James 1:12-15, NIV
