To Swallow Our Pride –
Today’s Marriage Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
In moments of disagreement and tension, remind us, O God, of the beauty of a gentle word and a listening ear. Help us to put aside our egos and to embrace the humility that comes from You. May we remember that being right pales in comparison to the strength found in loving and understanding each other.
Grant us, Lord, the wisdom to recognize when pride casts a shadow on our relationship. Help us to seek reconciliation over victory, love over being correct. In conflicts, large or small, guide us to approach each other with the compassion and selflessness that Jesus demonstrated in His life.
We pray for the courage to admit our faults and to ask for forgiveness. Let our apologies be sincere, and our forgiveness complete. Teach us to embrace vulnerability, understanding that it is the soil in which true intimacy grows.
In times when pride seeks to divide us, unite us with Your love, Lord. Help us to celebrate our differences and to learn from them. Encourage us to support one another, putting the needs of our spouse above our own, and to work together as a team, united in Your purpose.
In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
