Marriage Prayers

Today’s Marriage Prayer (a prayer for my husband, a prayer for my wife)

Hello, dear friends. I’d like to invite you to listen to this week’s podcast. Near the end of the podcast I open up about a particular trial our family has been going through. It’s definitely affected my writing here in recent weeks and I’ve only briefly shared bits and pieces. I’ve been going through a season of struggle as I’m sure many of us have since our world has so drastically changed. It’s taking a toll on my nerves, but at the same time, I am learning to trust and to thank God for this time of learning, and trusting, and growth.

A Prayer for My Husband

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for this wonderful gift of a husband, companion, and friend. Remind me to celebrate his achievements, and to turn my focus away from his faults.

Equip me to be the help meet you have called me to be, and the friend my husband needs me to be.

Help me to recognize his efforts, his courage, his strength, and to sing his praises in a way that brings honor to him and to our marriage.

Lead me to love. Remind me to speak kindly when I’m frustrated, and to respect him as the head of our home.

Show me the ways that I might encourage and support Him to be the man you have called him to be.

In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

 A Prayer for My Wife

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for this gracious gift of a wife, companion and friend. May I celebrate her achievements, pray for her daily and overlook any of her faults.

Teach me to love, honor, and cherish my wife as Christ loved and gave Himself up for us. Give me the courage to protect her, and the wisdom to lead.

Help me to recognize her efforts, her courage, her strengths, and to sing her praises in a way that brings honor to her and our marriage. Lead me to love in a sacrificial way.

Remind me to pray for her daily, that she might grow strong in Your grace.

In the name of Jesus I pray Amen.

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. – Ephesians 5:22-28
