Marriage Prayer – Against Fault-Finding Thoughts

Dear Heavenly Father,

Your Word tells us that love beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, and endureth all things. But here we are, two imperfect people who are learning to love.

We’ll never do everything right. In fact we’ll do a lot of things wrong, which is why we need patience and kindness if we hope to endure.

May life-giving words take the place of fault-finding thoughts, planting seeds of encouragement.

Help us to let go of the expectations that are weighing us down, and teach us to anchor our lives with assurance and hope.

In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
