Marriage Prayer – The Depth of True Love
Dear Heavenly Father,
Looking to the Bible we see Ruth who gave up everything she held dear to follow her mother-in-law Naomi into an unfamiliar land.
We read about Jacob who served seven years for Rachel. “They seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her” (Genesis 29:20). And then he served another seven.
We read about Elkanah who was a great comfort to his wife Hannah in her time of sorrow. (1 Samuel 1)
We see a love greater yet, when we look to Your Son who gave His life so that we might live.
Thank you for showing us the depth of true love. Please help us to live it.
In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. – 1 John 4:7-11, KJV
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. – 1 John 4:7, NIV
