Welcoming the Growth That Comes Through Discipline

Welcoming the Growth That Comes Through Discipline — Today’s Marriage Prayer

Dear heavenly Father,

Your Word tells us that no discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful—yet later it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

Today we pause and consider the places where You are shaping us.

Not everything in marriage feels easy.
Not every moment feels comfortable.
And yet, You are at work even there.

Lord, help us not to resist the growth You are bringing. When tension reveals impatience, teach us. When conflict exposes pride, correct us. When challenges stretch us, train us in righteousness.

Give us hearts that are willing to learn.

Instead of avoiding the hard moments, help us ask what You might be teaching us through them. Keep us from placing blame too quickly, and instead lead us to quiet reflection before You.

Father, form in us a deeper patience, a stronger humility, and a steadier love—shaped not only in ease, but in the moments that require endurance.

Remind us that growth often comes quietly, through repetition, through correction, and through surrender.

And as You shape us individually, let that work bring peace into our marriage—a peace that is not shallow, but rooted in hearts that are being trained by You.

We trust that even the difficult moments are not wasted in Your hands.

In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Today’s Bible Verse

Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. — Hebrews 12:11, KJV
