Finding Joy In The Moment

Finding Joy In The Moment –
Today’s Marriage Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the many blessings You give to us each day. It’s tempting to idolize the best parts like having a family, owning a house, or advancing in our careers.  It’s easy to elevate one aspect of our marriage and turn our back on those parts that are stressful, uncertain, or taxing.

While one part shines, the others are shadowed. But love is found in those dark places, when we can say to each other, “I’m here for you. I’ll pray for you. And we’ll get through this together.” Love is patiently built one sacrifice upon another, held together with the mortar of understanding and grace.

Walking away from it — trying to ignore the problems at hand does nothing to draw us together. It weakens our bond and opens a door for misery and despair. Forgive us for losing sight, Lord. Help us to press through those dark days and to find the beauty within them.  Give us the strength to get through them together, knowing that we’ll both come out stronger. Help us to slow down, and stop rushing through life; finding joy in the moment, and taking each day as it comes.

In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Today’s Bible Verse

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. – Psalm 23:1-4, KJV

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. – Psalm 23:1-4, NIV
